 BIOS Upgrade Guide

  1. Identify your motherboard's model and version by examining the label on the last slot.

  2. Check the current BIOS ID.

  3. Download the appropriate BIOS file.

  4. Self-extract the BIOS file by double clicking the downloaded file.

  5. Make a bootable floppy disk and copy the necessary files onto it.

  6. Boot from the floppy disk, usb flash driver and boot able CD disk.

  7. FLASH BIOS

  8. CLEAR CMOS DATA
1. Identify your motherboard's model & version by examining the label on the last slot.

 

Example : AB9 V1.00

2. Check the current BIOS ID.

 

The current BIOS ID is "14". If you already have the latest BIOS, no update is necessary. If you don't want to open the chassis to check the revision of mainboard, the alternative is checking it via BIOS id POSTed on the screen .

3. Download the appropriate BIOS file.

 

Select BIOS download page.

   

 

Select motherboard model and bios file. The example here is AB9 (Intel LGA775 Platform)



4. Self-extract the BIOS file by double clicking the downloaded file.

 

The case of AWARD BIOS

Example: In Windows, BIOS file of AB9: "AB914.ZIP"

4.a) Please double click AB914.ZIP file.
4.b) The self-extract file extract the .BIN file only..
4.c) The self-extract file extract 5 files which including AB9_14.txt, AB9_14.BIN, awdflash.exe, abitfae.bat and runme.bat.

The case of AMI BIOS

4.a) The self-extract file extract the AB9_14.BIN file only.
4.b) The self-extract file extract 5 files which including awdflash.exe, abitfae.bat, runme.bat and awdflash.exe.

The case of EFI BIOS

4.a) The self-extract file extract the .BIN file only.
4.b) The self-extract file extract 5 files which including awdflash.exe, abitfae.bat, runme.bat and awdflash.exe.

5. Make a bootable floppy disk and copy the necessary files onto it.

 

You can make a bootable floppy disk by right click on floppy icon in Windows XP; see this photo as right.

After formatting the disk and transferring the system to it, copy the files into it .

5.a) If the bios file extracted in step.4 contains the .BIN file only (step 4.b), you may need copy 2 files to floppy. The first is the BIOS flash utility " awdflash.exe " and the other is the decompressed BIOS binary file (from step 4 ).

5.b) If the bios file extracted in step.5 contains 5 files (step 4.c), copy all files to the floppy disk.



6. Boot from the floppy disk, usb flash driver and boot able CD disk.

 

In the BIOS, set "floppy" first in the boot sequence. (save and exit)

7. FLASH BIOS

 

After booting from the floppy, flash the BIOS in pure DOS mode by following instructions:

The case of AWARD BIOS

If the self-extract file in step.4 extracts the .BIN file only (step 4.b, 5.a) , excute awdflash.exe by this way please.

A:\>awdflash AB9_14.BIN /py /sn /cd /cp /cc /cks /R

Otherwise the self-extrat file should extract 5 files which including runme.bat (step 4.c, 5.b). Just execute runme.bat by typing "runme" and enter.

8. CLEAR CMOS DATA

 

Switch off the power supply unit or pull off the power cord. There is a CCMOS jumper near the battery . Change the jumper position from default 1-2 to 2-3 for one minute to discharge the CMOS data, and then put it back to default 1-2. Switch on the power supply unit or pull in the power cord. Press the power-on button to boot up system. If it works, hit " Del " key to enter the BIOS setup page to do correct settings.
