Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. Wednesday, January 10, 2001-Gary of PC Scoop recently had a chance to test the VP6. As Gary says, "When I heard that ABIT was coming out with a new dual processor board, I was interested to say the least. My old setup had started to feel a little sluggish and I was looking to put together a new main machine." He continues, asking, "Do you want dual FC-PGA processor support? Do you want a lot of DIMM slots? Do you want to use a lot of high speed drives or the ability to setup a RAID array? If you answered yes to even some of those questions, you should seriously check out the VP6."
What makes the VP6 the motherboard to buy? According to PC Scoop, "One really nice thing about the VP6 is the drive options you have. Since the VIA chipset supports UDMA33/66/100 drives and ABIT has included the HPT370 RAID controller that they've put on several of their recent motherboards, you can have up to eight drives on the system at any given time." On memory compatibility, "Even with a variety of combinations of memory of different types, sizes, and ratings, I saw no compatibility problems whatsoever. I ran combinations of 1, 2, 3, and 4 modules without incident. I tested more different types of memory in this motherboard than in any I've reviewed and was pleased to see that there were no compatibility issues uncovered. Definitely a plus."
"ABIT seems to have been very considerate of us overclockers when it comes to the VP6. There are a ton of options in the BIOS for tweaking out the system to your hearts content. You've got memory settings, FSB settings (and a couple of ways to adjust them), processors voltage settings, chipset voltage settings, and even more."
In conclusion, PC Scoop say, "The VP6 proved to be a very flexible and powerful solution."
"Is the VP6 an excellent motherboard? Absolutely. Will I be replacing my current BP6 dual Celeron 366 @ 550 setup with the VP6 dual 1GHz PIII? W |
