Arstechnica Awards KT7 Series: "Motherboard of the Year"

Taipei, Taiwan, Tuesday 13 February 2001 – When Arstechnica recently reviewed the best motherboards of 2000, they did not hesitate in nominating ABIT's KT7 series as the "motherboard of the year".

The award was not handed out lightly, Arstechnica laid down stringent requirements which all candidates had to meet. For the Arstechnica staff to award ABIT the motherboard of the year, ABIT's KT7 series had to "dominate an aspect of the tech industry in 2000" and "have far-reaching consequences for the industry's future."

Arstechnica had this to say about the KT7: "They've pulled it off again with their KT7 and KT7 RAID boards…the most stable Socket A motherboards we've worked with." But stability by itself would not fit the requirements. ABIT needed to come up with something extra in order to get the reviewer's juices flowing.

What did ABIT do to make the KT7 series such a dominating force? According to Arstechnica there were two main innovations. "The first is a simple one that many of us have missed for a while: multiplier tweaking for our CPUs." With this ability the KT7 series become incredibly tweakable. The other main feature that makes this board stand out among the competition is the integrated HPT370 controller that allows RAID. RAID enables you to increase your hard-drive performance and security. Arstechnica could not say enough about this controller: "the HPT370 just plain rocks."

Arstechnica summed up the capabilities of the KT7 and the KT7-RAID with the following: "With RAID 0 and 1 capability and excellent performance and stability, the HPT370 brings RAID to the enthusiast market. The combination of these two features puts this board at the top of the list for the Ars Awards of 2000."
