Taipei, Taiwan, Tuesday, March 20, 2001 – It can be hard finding the best motherboard for your needs, but as Maximum3D recently found out there really is only one AMD board worth considering – ABIT's KT7A-RAID.
Based on the immensely popular KT7, the KT7A-RAID offers drastically higher FSB maximums and greater tweakability. Not only does ABIT's SoftMenu give you a huge range of options it is also lots of fun. As Maximum3D attests "I had more fun with this motherboard than any other I have had the opportunity to pound on, thanks to the almost limitless SoftMenuIII, and the new bus speeds available... Sounds like fun? It is."
The KT7A-RAID comes packed with features and Maximum3D couldn't say enough about them: "Like its predecessor, the KT7A-RAID features the familiar 1 AGP / 6 PCI / 1 ISA configuration, and supports up to 1.5GB of memory in three DIMM slots. The inclusion of a single ISA slot is a nice touch, rather than wasting the space with an AMR slot. The manual is standard fare for ABIT, thorough with lots of pictures and diagrams. ABIT also included a set of extra USB headers, for a total of four USB ports..."
Ultimately, Maximum3D was impressed with the layout of the board, which includes four strategically placed fan headers: "The board layout is excellent, with everything where it should be...
Sometimes, people wonder why we include some of our features, for example active cooling on the Northbridge. Fair enough. Maximum3D tested the board without the fan. They found that "ABIT's decision to actively cool the Northbridge chip does lend to stability, as we discovered when we stopped the fan on the heatsink."
Finally, Maximum3D concluded with: The KT7A-RAID is a great board, totally stable, great overclocker, and SoftMenuIII continues to define the jumperless motherboard. The board layout is excellent, with everything in the right place, including an abundance of fan headers spread around the b |
