Fatal1ty Wins CPL World Tour Finals
Gaming phenomenon Wendel conquers 5th world title, wins $150,000

November 30th, 2005 – Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel has been creating big news around the world this year. He has been seen on the cover of BusinessWeek, and was recently named the 2nd most feared sports person in the world, by Foxsports.com. Working his way up from the lower bracket while facing fierce international competition at the CPL World Tour Finals, Fatal1ty has proved, once again, that he is the undeniable eSports champion of the world for the fifth time – an unprecedented achievement in the history of the Cyberathlete Professional League! With this victory, Fatal1ty cements his position as the world's best gamer, and receives a whopping $150,000 - the largest single prize ever offered in a gaming tournament.

One day earlier, Fatal1ty was knocked down to the lower bracket by his archrival Sander "VoO" Kassjager. This meant that Fatal1ty had to win a total of two sets to take the title in the final match. The first map, DM_Psycho, heavily favored VoO, as he had never lost on this particular map all year. Fatal1ty, playing a defensive game, managed to upset VoO with a score of 15-11. The next map, DM_Meatless, saw Fatal1ty easily defeating VoO with a score of 26-6. With the first set on Fatal1ty's side, the finals came to a concluding, decisive set. VoO chose DM_Psycho once again, and what unfolded was perhaps the lowest-scoring Painkiller game all season with each competitor playing extremely defensively. After three quick kills in overtime, Fatal1ty bested VoO by a score of 8-4. The game now took a dramatic turn as VoO, who began the tournament as the favored player, found himself in a do-or-die situation with the final match on DM_Meatless. Despite an early lead by VoO, Fatal1ty showed his mastery of the game by dominating his opponent 20-13 and, once again, making competitive gaming history.

Fatal1ty was ecstatic, leaping from his computer with his fists pumping upon capturing the title in four straight games. He was quick to thank the CPL's founder, Angel Munoz, for his vision, and to congratulate his Fatal1ty Brand Partners; ABIT Computer, Creative Labs, SoundBlaster X-Fi, & Zalman Tech for their support.

Nine successful years on the professional circuit have taken Johnathan "Fatality" Wendel straight to the very top of the world's gaming elite. Fatal1ty has entered 62 competitions with 56 top 3 finishes - dominating in 9 different games. With no less than 41 first place finishes, it's obvious that this guy really hates to lose!

No other professional gamer has captured as many titles as Fatal1ty, and no other player has dominated in such a variety of games. When you play on this level, competing for thousands of dollars in cash, you just can't afford even the tiniest glitches in your games. With today's advanced graphics-engines you need a lot of raw power to ensure that your computer is running smoothly. This has compelled Johnathan Wendel to team up with motherboard maker ABIT to develop PC hardware designed specifically for the extreme gaming crowd. As a result of this cooperation, ABIT now carries a whole line of top-notch Fatal1ty motherboards, engineered with nothing but blazing game performance in mind.

ABIT would like to congratulate Fatal1ty on his monumental achievement.
