September 27, 2005 – Our Fatal1ty products are more than skin deep. The time and effort spent with Fatal1ty in making this motherboard has reaped fantastic rewards. Attention to detail and persistent striving to perfect the concepts that embody the Fatal1ty series has led to a huge array of awards. This latest award received from OCPrices had this to say: "Layout is sensible, with the PSU connectors well away from the CPU socket, plenty of room around the CPU for oversized coolers and excellent placement of the memory slots in relation to the video card." They were impressed with the little touches that have made ABIT famous: "ABIT have included an LED post reporter, which makes diagnosing errors during boot much easier than most boards." They also point out: "The clear CMOS jumper is in a superb location well away from the add-on cards next to it. Below the chipset cooler are the four SATA connectors that use the on-chip NVIDIA SATA-II RAID controller."
Overclocking is well catered for: "All of the relevant overclocking options are in the top uGuru section, including frequency and voltage options. DRAM configuration is found within advanced properties, so everything is pretty much as you would expect. The Fatal1ty is clearly a board designed for overclocking, with the board allowing a CPU voltage of up to 1.85V, a maximum V-Dimm of 3.55V and adjustable FSB all the way up to 410MHz. All of the motherboards fans can be controlled by the BIOS, and can even be set to activate when a particular temperature rises above your designated threshold. Say for instance you only want the OTES fans to activate after the PWM temperature hits 50 degrees; you can set this up within seconds."
OCPrices felt that to criticize the ABIT 'Fatal1ty AN8 SLI for lacking legacy peripheral ports; "Would be like criticizing a Ferrari for its small luggage space and lack of back seats." They confirm that: "The ABIT 'Fatal1ty AN8 SLI is without doubt a quality product."
Conclusion: "For overclockers, the ABIT allows a stable operation at voltages and speeds that most other boards can't compete with and thus comes highly recommended."
