ABIT AW8-MAX receives "Editor Choice" award from The Techzone

August 30th, 2005 - Fremont, CA. One of the biggest Canadian hardware review sites; The Techzone has recently reviewed the ABIT AW8-MAX motherboard and awarded it with "Editor Choice" award! Here are the highlights "ABIT MAX motherboards represents the epitome of motherboard design. Everything about an ABIT MAX motherboard screams "This is the best there is." And indeed, the new ABIT AW8-MAX is the best MAX motherboard yet."

The TechZone was really impressed with ABIT Engineered Feature – Silent OTES' performance. "The area around the CPU is nice and clean with a lot space to accommodate very big heatsink coolers. The design of the CPU section of the AW8-MAX is quite genius since ABIT makes use of the CPU fan to not only cool the processor heatsink, but the surrounding heatsinks as well. This Silent OTES by itself can justify the price of the AW8-MAX."

The TechZone also has great luck overclocking the AW8-MAX motherboard. "Like all ABIT motherboards we've tested, the AW8-MAX proved to be a super stable platform on which to build an overclocked system. We swapped out the P4 550 3.4GHz with a P4 520 2.8GHz CPU (because we didn't want chance blowing up the 3.4) and had no problems pushing it all the way to 3.4GHz using a 245MHz FSB. And this is with the stock Intel cooler! We feel very confident that with a better cooling solution, we can squeeze another 200 to 300MHz out of the CPU. "

Conclusion. "While most users will be fine without SLI, the AW8-MAX is a top of the line product and not having a second PCI-E x16 slot makes it seem like something is missing. With a selling price up to $250, the AW8-MAX is also a very expensive motherboard. We do feel the price is fully justified however. The ABIT AW8-MAX would be our number one choice for building an Intel based system."

The Goods:

• Very stable overclocking motherboard
• Tons of overclocking features like uGuru
• Excellent BIOS
• Dead silent OTES Cooler

The Bad:

• Expensive
• Would have like to see two IDE connectors
