Fatal1ty Wins CPL Summer 2005
Wins tournament undefeated taking 1st place and $15,000

July 13, 2005 – As the world's most recognized gamer, Johnathan Wendel, a.k.a. "Fatal1ty", has done it again. After an exciting 5 days, Fatal1ty managed to win the CPL Summer Painkiller tournament in convincing fashion to become the CPL Summer 2005 Champion.

Fatal1ty demonstrated his gaming prowess by going through the entire tournament without dropping a single match. Fatal1ty seemed to cruise through the initial rounds of the tournament with impressive control. Things really began to pick up after meeting and defeating the current Painkiller champion, Sander "VoO" Kaasjager, in the upper bracket finals.

Ultimately, Fatal1ty would meet VoO once again during the grand finals – a nail-biting match up for the record books. In round one, Voo sprung to an impressive 7-0 lead. Not to be outdone, Fatal1ty answered back with an 11 frag streak, making the score 11-7 for Fatal1ty. VoO managed to battle back with 3 more frags, but Fatal1ty scored a clutch frag to make it 12-10 before VoO got another in the dying seconds of the round. Fatal1ty takes the first round 12-11.

The second, and ultimately final, round saw Fatal1ty dominating a reeling VoO with 22 unanswered frags. VoO finally managed to score a frag around seven minutes into the match, but with time on his side, Fatal1ty managed to hang on to the impressive lead. As the clock ran out with the final score of 26-16, the undefeated Fatal1ty was crowned CPL Summer 2005 Champion, winning the first place prize of $15,000.

"I'm very pleased with how this year's CPL turned out," said Fatal1ty. "I felt good going into the tournament and we accomplished what we set out to do. It was great having the support of the community behind me, and winning the title at home was awesome. I'm looking forward to doing the same thing at the next World Tour stop."
