Tom's Hardware Reviews the Fatal1ty AA8XE
"ABIT is blazing a new trail with this board. Thanks ABIT!"

December 13, 2004 – Designed with the professional gamer in mind, ABIT's Fatal1ty AA8XE is making a lasting impression with enthusiasts around the world. Anandtech recently praised it as "the fastest Intel gaming motherboard you can buy." Now, hardware authority Tom's Hardware Guide had the opportunity to take ABIT's new gaming platform out for a test drive. Innovating in several areas, Tom's came away more than impressed with the Fatal1ty AA8XE, stating: "Thanks to the high level of experience that ABIT was able to collect with enthusiast-orientated products (I'm referring to µGuru or SoftMenu), the first Fatal1ty motherboard is indeed a highly interesting product...ABIT is blazing a new trail with this new board."

Tom's was immediately impressed with the extensive OTES™ cooling features on the Fatal1ty AA8XE: "The Fatal1ty board has a very distinctive look due to its eye-catching cooling solution. While the South Bridge is equipped with just a little heat sink, the North Bridge is ventilated by a small fan. It is placed vertically at the side of the heat sink below it, which is a different arrangement from other boards. Even more impressive than this is ABIT's OTES system, which encapsulates the voltage regulators under a huge plastic cover. This allows hot air to be efficiently extracted by two 40 mm fans installed at the backplane. Luckily, both fans are controlled by µGuru and thus work silently. Thanks, ABIT! "

If you're looking for an overclocking platform that will push your system to the limit, look no further than the Fatal1ty AA8XE: "We decided to cool down the CPU using a self-made Socket 775 processor kit for the VapoChill LS compressor cooler, and were able to hit slightly more than 300 MHz FSB clock for a few minutes. This makes it pretty clear that ABIT's AA8XE Fatal1ty board would very likely be able to hit new FSB records, if processors were able to support faster overclocked FSB speeds by offering smaller multipliers."

The verdict? "The Fatal1ty AA8XE is a motherboard that will please users who are looking for a solid board with impressive overclocking capabilities. Our expectations are pretty high now, which leaves us to wonder: what will be the next product released under the Fatal1ty brand?"
