August 17, 2004 – Fatal1ty, at age 23 and already the world's most recognized and accomplished professional PC video gamer, added to his championship record by winning the
NVIDIA DOOM 3 Inaugural Deathmatch Championship, pocketing
$25,000 and dazzling a crowd of more than 2,000 at
Quakecon, the largest PC gaming festival and LAN party in North America. Fatal1ty dominated the tournament using a gaming rig based on ABIT's
KV8 Pro motherboard and an
ABIT ATI graphics card.
Adding to the excitement was the highly anticipated launch of DOOM3, which has been available nationwide for less than two weeks. After losing a preliminary match to fellow professional gamer "Daler" (Sean Price), 20, Fatal1ty came back to beat him in the final two "must win" matches, clinching the DOOM3 Championship in a stunning display of skill, dominating his opponent by scores of 13-1 and 14-4.
It was a huge event overall for Fatal1ty, who in between tournament games also played 80 matches in the
DOOM 3 Fatal1ty Shootout™ presented by ABIT that packed the Quakecon exhibit hall each of the 3 days. He played all comers, pros and amateurs alike, in rapid succession, winning 79 of 80 matches (with his only loss in the four-minute Shootouts coming from Daler). The cumulative score was
584 frags for Fatal1ty and
negative 21 for Quakecon challengers.
In addition, ABIT announced the first Fatal1ty branded product, a super-performance motherboard designed for the demanding specifications of PC gamers, to be released in the fourth quarter of 2004. A full line of purpose built Fatal1ty brand system components from his technology arm, the
Fatal1ty Brain Trust (FBT), are in development for release throughout 2005.
Fatal1ty will now kick off a world exhibition tour, beginning with
ABIT Fatal1ty Shootout Europe. Fatal1ty plans to travel to 5 major European countries including
Germany, Italy, Holland, Russia, and the
UK to promote e-sports through exciting shootout events.
