11, 2004 – With the release of DOOM 3™, PC enthusiasts
around the world are looking to get their systems up to spec for this graphical
powerhouse. Touted as the most significant game release this year, DOOM
3™ stresses the graphics subsystem of a PC like no game before it. To play
it in its full splendor, which motherboard should you choose for your DOOM
3™ rig? Enthusiast website Hard|OCP recently took a look
at ABIT's KV8 Pro motherboard, based on the VIA
K8T800 Pro chipset. The editors were so impressed in fact, that
they named it the Ultimate Enthusiast DOOM 3™ Motherboard,
awarding it with their Must Have Hardware Award.
Hard|OCP liked the clean layout of the KV8 Pro: "ABIT consistently
manages to create motherboards that meet enthusiast's demands with regard
to layout and design. The KV8 Pro is a prime example of this skill and
is practically free of any issue that we have readily identified from
boards in the past."
For gaming performance, it's tough to beat the KV8 Pro: "An
incredible run here from the KV8 Pro with this benchmark coming in at
close to a tie. I'm saving my pennies for this one... I can't say much
more here other than the results are unreal. I wouldn't have believed
these results going into this review."

terms of image quality and speed...If moving through the terrifying world

then this is your system. You can see above that we logged very solid
real-world gameplay at an astonishing 1600x1200 with 4X antialiasing turned
on. It simply doesn't get much better than this."
Their conclusion: "The ABIT KV8 Pro has once again proven
what is starting to become "The ABIT Experience:"
Practically perfect out-of-the-box, good overclocking, highly stable,
and all-around good performance. This motherboard beat my expectations,
but I guess I set myself up for that one. ABIT has consistency done a
great job at keeping the most demanding users happy, and the KV8 Pro does
little, if anything, to tarnish that reputation. Combine on-par subsystem
performance with terrific benchmark results surrounded by a superb impression
of the motherboard on almost all counts and you have the KV8 Pro. The
KV8 Pro is on my short list of AMD boards to watch for during my next
buying frenzy."
The bottom line? If you're looking for a 754-pin mobo for DOOM 3, the
KV8 Pro is it. If a 939-pin CPU is what you need, the ABIT AV8 is the
way to go for ultimate DOOM 3 performance.
