July
22, 2004 – When it comes to stability under stress, there's no
beating an ABIT motherboard built with BulletProof Technology. PC enthusiast
website Hard|OCP recently had a chance to test the new AG8
motherboard from ABIT. Also positioned as a mainstream board, Hard|OCP
editors quickly learned that the AG8 is a Pentium 4 platform with teeth.
Hard|OCP had an absolute field day with the number of voltage options
available on the AG8: "With the Voltages Control option within
the OC Guru screen set to User Define, all BIOS configurable system voltages
becomes user definable. The CPU Core Voltage option controls the amount
of power going to your power hungry CPU. The CPU voltage ranges from 1.575v
to a beefy 1.9250v. Unless you've got some serious cooling though, I wouldn't
try to max this setting out. The board is just as liberal with the DDR
SDRAM Voltage setting, with a more than adequate 3.20v maximum. In order
to use that much voltage through that killer DRAM of yours, you must use
some type of active cooling with it. ABIT continues this amazing voltage
trend with the NB Voltage option, allowing for a maximum of 2.05v."
The
AG8 is designed with the enthusiast in mind: "The board itself
was very easy to setup and get working, with as good a layout as I've
seen in a long time. ABIT obviously spent some time perfecting the design
of the board. Between the impressive µGuru implementation and the onboard
diagnostic LED to the sheer amount of space between items on the board
itself, I am very impressed...This is definitely the board to get if you
are itching to upgrade. Coupled with the stability and performance of
the board, the raw potential present makes this a definite one to watch."
The [H]ard conclusion: "What can I say, ABIT's done it again.
This board definitely beat my expectations going into this review. Given
the fact that the AG8 is slated as the mainstream solution, I wasn't prepared
to set my bar too high for fear of being let down. The fact that this
board was able to easily match performance with the more advanced, as
well as more expensive, i925X chipset solution speaks volumes on its own...The
ABIT AG8 looks to be another very stable and feature-packed motherboard
product from ABIT for those wishing to find out what the latest and greatest
Pentium4 CPUs from Intel are all about."

ABIT's Advanced Durability brings greater responsibility
to the motherboard manufacturers in creating durable products with
quality, reliability and stability engineered for long-term, problem-free
use. All of ABIT motherboards are Advanced Durability tested and approved.
ABIT looks to all motherboard makers to make a similar durability
commitment to the end-user. |
