May 24, 2004 - Recently VR Zone (Virtual Zone) Hardware
site reviewed the ABIT AMD Socket 754 motherboard, the KV8-MAX3. Here
are the highlights:
"The ABIT KV8-MAX3 is a motherboard catered for the enthusiast
market, and therefore comes bundled with many items not seen with most
standard motherboards. The KV8-MAX3 includes two rounded IDE cables, one
80 wire ATA 133 and one Floppy cable. Also included are four SATA cables,
a great and very comprehensive manual and quick installation guide, and
ABIT's own Secure IDE.."
Let's
hear what VR-Zone says about ABIT's OTES technology "The first
thing one will notice about the KV8-MAX3 is the OTES cooling technology
on the board's I/O panel. OTES technology was first launched with ABIT's
overclock GeForce 4 Ti 4200 video card and now has made it onto ABIT's
flagship MAX line of motherboards. OTES cools the PWM power regulation
mosfets and capacitors, components that can get extremely hot through
prolonged use and overclocking.."
VR-Zone was impressed with the overclocking results on the KV8-MAX3
"ABIT's Max series of motherboards have a history of good overclockability,
and the K8V-MAX3 is no different. Our maximum stable overclock was 230Mhz,
overclocking the FSB of the board up to 233Mhz and achieving an overall
clock speed of 2.23Ghz. Of course the multiplier on the Athlon 64 3400+
is locked, so with a vcore of 1.7v the maximum overclock was (223x10).
We used AMD's reference heatsink in testing and achieved some impressive
results. We were able to get an increase of 600 3dmarks in 3D Mark 2001
SE, over two FPS in Comanche 4, and over seven FPS in Unreal Tournament
2003. "
Conclusion "The ABIT KV8-MAX3 is definitely one of the most; if
not the most feature rich socket 754 Athlon 64 motherboar on the market.
ABIT's engineers have once again produced a top notch BIOS with the KV8-MAX3.
If you are a computer thusiast looking for an Athlon 64 motherboard, look
no further. The ABIT KV8-MAX3 is one of the most versatile motherboards
on the market, is filled with features and overclocks like a charm. It
is the one of the best socket 754 boards on the market, and rightfully
deserves 85 vrmarks!"
