ABIT VGA Card Double Header @ TweakTown
Editors recommend ABIT's latest ATI graphic offerings

April 19, 2004 - Built for Gamers, by Gamers, ABIT's graphic cards deliver the kind of performance gamers need to stay a cut above the competition. The editors at TweakTown took ABIT's latest graphic cards, the R9800XT and R9600XT-VIO, and after putting them through a battery of tests, had no problems recommending either card, giving them a combined score of 8.5 out of 10!

TweakTown offer some sound advice when buying a Radeon 9800XT card: "The things you need to pay special attention to is the included packages and warranty and support from the manufacturer you are choosing...ABIT provided us with a graphics card which worked as expected and didn't cause us any problems with stability. The package includes all the cables we need to make full use of the card as well as a voucher to download the full version of Half Life 2 when it is released by Valve."

Here's what happened with the editors overclocked ABIT's R9600XT-VIO: "We were pleasantly surprised by the overclockability of the ABIT R9600XT-VIO. With completely stock cooling using RIVA Tuner we were able to get a maximum stable overclock of 608MHz out of the core (111MHz over default) and 345MHz or 690MHz DDR out of the memory (46MHz or 92MHz DDR over default). The trusty Samsung chips have pulled through again running stable almost 50MHz over what they are rated on their website...While the memory speeds were still a fair way under that of the overclocked Power Color 9600 XT, the impressive core overclock did help even things out quite nicely for ABIT."

Conclusion: "When we first started testing we didn't think too much of [the R9600XT-VIO] since the clock speeds were clocked a little under standard. At first it didn't shine. Then, as you just saw, the overclockability of the core showed class reaching around 40MHz higher on the core than the Power Color Bravo...The ABIT R9600XT does look quite attractive when in action with its blue LED emitting light from the fan and does provide good performance when overclocked...We have no problems recommending either ABIT R9800XT or R9600XT-VIO to you."

Pros
- VIVO on R9600XT-VIO
- Impressive core overclock on R9600XT-VIO
- Blue LED glow on R9600XT-VIO, stylish looking card
- Good performance

Combined Rating - 8.5 out of 10
