The Tech Report recently took a look at ABIT’s first AMD Athlon 64 ready
mainboard, the KV8-MAX3.
Tech Report takes a close look at the patented OTES™ cooling technology,
found on the KV8-MAX3: "...it's time to sink our teeth into the KV8-MAX3's
radical OTES cooling system. Check it out:
The KV8-MAX3's OTES system consists of a massive plastic shroud and variable-speed
45mm exhaust fan. OTES is designed to draw hot air away from the board's
MOSFETs, which could improve stability when overclocking."
So what else is there to like about the KV8-MAX3? "For starters, all
praise the SoftMenu. With more memory timing options than you can shake
a stick at and variable speed fan control, the KV8-MAX3 easily has the
best BIOS I've ever seen. It doesn't hurt that much of the BIOS's functionality
is mirrored by ABIT's µGuru suite of Windows software, either µGuru also
takes the KV8-MAX3's BIOS one step further with more advanced hardware
monitoring options and a couple of other useful applications."
The conclusion: "With all this talk about the BIOS, uGuru, and SecureIDE,
it's easy to forget that the KV8-MAX3 is also a pretty impressive performer.
At the end of the day, ABIT has succeeded in keeping its MAX line fresh
against a backdrop of feature-laden competitors...(the)...KV8-MAX3 is
one of the sweetest Athlon 64 boards around, and definitely has what it
takes to make just about any enthusiast's Athlon 64 purr with delight."
