December
18, 2003 - With the holidays quickly approaching, shoppers the
world over will be looking for the perfect gift for the hardware enthusiast
in their lives. For a gift that keeps on giving, ABIT's AN7 motherboard
packs legendary ABIT performance into a package that's easy on the wallet.
Legion Hardware had a chance to take the AN7 for a spin, and was so impressed
with it, gave it their coveted Performance Award!
Legion Hardware loved overclocking on the fly, made possible with ABIT's
SoftMenu and µGuru™: "A new feature that I found in the KV8-MAX3
BIOS was called "OC on the Fly". The new feature, developed
for the SoftMenu lll, basically allows the user to overclock their system
from the BIOS on the fly. In other words, without having to reset the
system to see the results. I have found this feature to work wonderfully..."
The
AN7 is not only a good performer, but it's also a great value: "The
ABIT AN7 is much like the KV7 that I reviewed in September, despite the
difference in chipsets. The KV7 was based on the competing VIA KT600 chipset.
Back then I found the KV7 to be an excellent overclocker and a superb
performer. For just $80 US at the time the KV7 was a bargain. Much the
same can be said for the AN7. While it does carry a higher price tag of
$110 US, there are worthy improvements. The nForce2 400 Ultra in itself
is a slightly more expensive chipset. Once you start adding up additional
features, such as the Guru technology along with all the other ABIT engineered
features, the reason for the price difference is obvious."
Here's the conclusion: "Just like the KV7 I found the AN7
not only to be an excellent overclocker, but also an impressive performer
right across the board. The BIOS was rich with tweakable features, and
the new ability to OC on the Fly is a brilliant addition to the board...Overall,
the AN7 has quickly become one of my favorite Socket A motherboards. With
the high quality software utilities that ABIT are continuing to develop
I will find it hard to turn down future motherboards from the company."
