The History of MAX

Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., October 17th, 2003 -The original MAX series arrived at a time of great uncertainty in the motherboard industry, and was seen by many enthusiasts as a new hope amidst a sea of despair. What was needed in motherboards was a new way of thinking, and MAX gave hope where before there was none. The words legacy free had been but a concept cherished by enthusiasts who looked forever forward, rather than clinging to faded glories and tarnished ideologies. MAX I was the first motherboard created looking completely towards the future without being constrained by the old ways thinking. Its release transformed an industry grown complacent with pushing derivative products on woefully jaded enthusiasts.

A Revolution in PC Hardware

Just over a year ago when MAX debuted motherboards were pretty standard, relying on technologies that were readily available and accepted by the collective known as "the industry". A few companies stood out with their overclocking features or quality, but motherboard back panels had remained the same for years: PS/2 ports, parallel, serial and two USB ports. Onboard sound was a rarity and was generally distrusted by the enthusiast community as being inferior to an add-on card. LAN was not standard and only had appeared on a few boards. RAID was an onboard standard that had been introduced by ABIT, as were overclocking features.

MAX3 continues in this tradition. However, while the old MAX was about reinventing the back panel, the MAX is about cooling and security. MAX3 will bring to your PC:

MAXimum Cooling
MAXimum Performance
MAXimum Storage
MAXimum Service
MAXimum Security
MAXimum Overclocking
MAXimum Multimedia
MAXimum Engineering

MAX3 promises to take the world transformed by MAX I and II, and illuminate the inherent darkness that has come to symbolize the desktop motherboard market. With a radically advanced cooling solution and the most flexible, powerful and forward thinking technologies for the most demanding and discerning enthusiasts, MAX3 is more than a new motherboard: according to Scott Thirlwell, Director of Marketing at ABIT, "MAX symbolizes the evolution of computer technology beyond the mundane limitations users have come to expect from their computer systems. ABIT has not only redefined the standard, it has reinvented it."
