Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., August 11th, 2003-Recently
Nexus Hardware looked at the ABIT IS7-G. Using the groundbreaking Hyper-
Threading Technology and gushing with extra capacity and peripherals support
as well as first class onboard sound, this board makes for an easily deployed
system in the home or office. Nexus Hardware gave it an Editor''s
Choice Award.
The IS7-G is equipped with a Phoenix Award BIOS: a BIOS that
allows for maximal control of motherboard functions and features. As with
all new ABIT''s, the IS7-G has the "SoftMenu" where FSB, voltage,
and divider adjustments can be made. The first image shows a minimum FSB
of 100Mhz and a maximum of 412Mhz. The second shows the northbridge strap
options; 400, 533, 800, and 667. The third image shows the available RAM
dividers, 3:2, 5:4, and 1:1 respectively. Next up is the PCI/AGP ratio.
A variety of options are available, including a "fixed", or
locked PCI/AGP bus (33/66Mhz).
Overclocking:
Overclocking is without a doubt, our favorite thing to test when reviewing.
We grabbed our favorite swiftech water cooling setup, and proceeded to
overclock. We had to use the available memory dividers, as even our fastest
memory couldn''t keep up. Here is our result:
Who can complain about an over one ghz overclock?!? We sure weren''t
complaining, I doubt you would be either!
Conclusion:
The end result is that the IS7 is an excellent motherboard. The addition
of the extra RAID features found on the IS7-G is only the icing on the
cake. Stellar features, overclocking, and performance all make the IS7
an excellent choice for a Springdale powered computer...after using the
IS7-G for the last month, we can say that it has been a pleasing experience!
