Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., June 10th, 2003-Hardware
website XHardware.net reviewed the IC7-G and gave it a well earned Editor's
Choice Award. Here are excerpts from the review.
"By now every PC enthusiast has heard of ABIT, who recently launched the
impressive IS7, IS7-E, and IS7-G boards based on the Springdale chipset. They
had a wealth of features, performance was by far excellent, and the prices of
the boards were inexpensive. Today we will be taking a look at their i875P (Canterwood)
offering, the ABIT IC7-G. We will compare the ABIT IS7 and the ABIT IC7-G and
see how much of a performance difference there are between the i865PE and i875P
Chipsets.
Overclocking
The IC7-G is a real pleasure to overclock. For cooling we are using an SLK-800U
together with a Thermaltake Smart Fan2. We were really just curious about how
far this board would go. So with HT Enabled we started to crank up the FSB, then
we hit a wall. That wall was at a massive 295MHz, that is 1180Mhz FSB quad
pumped! Which is great for just using air cooling, here is a screen shot of the
overclock.
SoftMenu ... allows you to change the FSB (front side bus), select a variety of
FSB:AGP:PCI dividers or you can even select exact frequency to lock each option
at. You can select the Vcore, Vdimm, and Vagp options which are also available
in the softmenu. The FSB option ranges from a mere 100MHz to a whopping 415MHz.
You can also select different N/B Straps to match your CPU, for example if you
have an 800MHz bus processor, you can select the PSB800 strap and have the 1:1,
5:4, and 3:2 FSB:RAM dividers available. And if you select PSB533 for a 533MHz
bus processor, you get the 1:1, 3:4 and 4:5 memory dividers. This motherboard's
Vcore ranges from 1.5v to 1.9v in 0.025v increments, and Vdimm ranges from 2.5v
to 2.8v in 0.5v increments.
Conclusion
ABIT has done it again; they have created a motherboard that's not only loaded
with features, but at the same time it has the excellent performance, stability,
and overclockability that is expected from a performance oriented motherboard.
The amazing overclockability and performance that we were able to achieve not
only shows the craftsmanship of ABIT's boards, but also how well the Canterwood
Chipset performs. All in all if you are in the market for a new high-performance
Pentium4 Motherboard then this is definitely the one to get.
-Excellent performance
- Good overclocker
- Lots of features
- Overall excellent board layout
ABIT has yet again turned out a winner and earned our Editor's Choice Award."
