Lost Circuits Reviews the ABIT IC7; Proclaims: "quality, design and stability are exemplary"

Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. June 6th, 2003- LostCircuits, one of the most informative sites on the internet about new computer hardware, has just reviewed the new ABIT IC7 mainboard.

"the fun is back in reviewing Intel chipset boards, Canterwood and Springdale are like a box of chocolate .... we haven''t had that in a long time. So, which flavor is ABIT''s IC7?

More Power and Stability For Overclocking

Starting with the BH7, ABIT has taken things somewhat further by committing to a four phase design based on the Intersil HIP6301CB programmable power controller...It can''t be done any better than that, there is hardly any chance for ripple currents to persist.

To eradicate the last bit of those ripples, ABIT uses two 2200 µF (6.3V) Rubycon capacitor per phase, switching spikes on the auxiliary 12V inputs are suppressed by two 16V 1200 µF caps directly next to the auxiliary connector. In addition...each and every capacitor on the IC7 is a Rubycon of Japanese mother''s finest origin.

Conclusion

The first impression of the IC7 was after opening the box and that impression was overwhelmingly positive. The second impression came after looking at the accessories, another wow-effect. The third impression came after looking at the board itself with what I personally think is a great layout and finding all these little details like angled IDE connectors and jumpers color-matching the header bases. Very nice! The MCH fan is cute, no more and no less, and the DIMM slot color scheme of Barney and blue is actually a pleasing combination.

During the testing...the board is a bit on the slow side in synthetic memory tests but at stock settings, it is rock solid. Moreover, as overt from the rest of the benchmarks, raw memory performance is not indicative of system performance in other applications. In addition, we hear that ABIT is working on a major revision of their BIOS and, most likely, things will speed up even more while, hopefully, not sacrificing stability.

The overall verdict is that I actually liked the IC7 quite a bit; the quality, design and stability are exemplary..."
