TechSeekers Gives ABIT IC7-G 10 out of 10 and the "Recommended" Award.

Taipei, Taiwan, June 5th, 2003-
"The IC7-G is the flagship Canterwood board from ABIT...and is a feature packed P4 board, that packs Gigabit LAN, dual SATA RAID through the ICH5R and Silicon Image 3122A SATA controller, Surround sound , Optical Digital Audio In/Out, Firewire as well as the other features that are included in the i875P such as 8XAGP, USB2.0 and 800MHz FSB support.

Built By Overclockers, For Overclockers

Maintaining the same system setup as above, I replaced the 3GHz "C" CPU with a 2.4GHz "C" CPU to test overclockability. The results will amaze and shock you :-).

Overclocking is all about getting more performance from what we have, and although in general overclocking lends itself to the idea that you get more for less money, sometimes an overclocked Rig can set you back more in terms of cost due to advanced cooling devices etc, but here we can see that with a cheaper P4 2.4GHz "C" we can achieve a performance level over the flagship processor. With the 2.4GHz @ 3.3GHz @ 275MHz we get quite an advantage over stock 3GHz system. And that''s on AIR Cooling.

Conclusion: A Perfect Motherboard

If you are looking for the best performing, P4 motherboard then look no further. The ABIT IC7-G is built for overclockers by overclockers and it shows. The wide range of FSB frequencies and voltage adjustments just show where this board is aimed at. And in fact the BIOS is so well laid out that even the uninitiated can build themselves a sweet overclocked system. The IC7-G has one of the best filled rear IO panels I have seen, with a huge array of sockets. The board layout is also excellent, and by keeping the CPU in far from the edge allows the installation of larger quieter coolers. I really also like the angle that the ATA100 connectors are at, as it keeps everything tidy. Our IC7-G had no trouble setting up RAID-0 with the ICH5R with two SATA Seagate 120Gig drives, but as there was only one included SATA Seriell2 adapter I could not test the RAID with standard PATA drives. With regard to Dual Channel memory, we were able to run very tight memory timings at DDR400 and compatibility was excellent, working with all the high performance modules we had in the lab.

Stability was also excellent and encountered no stability issues until we overclocked to 300MHz FSB. Our little 2.4C could not take been driven hard at 3.6GHz and refused to complete a 3DMark test. I bet it''s the processor that''s limiting me. But it was stable all the way up to 275MHz. That''s a QDR FSB of 1100MHz, very impressive. If the CSA Gigabit Ethernet and extra SATA ports are not important to you then may I suggest you take a look at the equally high performing, but cheaper IC7, exactly the same board but with out those features.

ABIT has done it again with their IC7-G. They have delivered a top class Canterwood board, excelling in performance, features and stability. And as per usual comes with with excellent overclocking potential, making the IC7-G one of the best P4 boards available."
