Always ahead of the curve, ABIT Computer Corporation is known by power users

device, which enables users to adapt their IDE hard disks to the new Serial ATA
interface quickly and easily. What's more, the ABIT Serillel is bundled with
ABIT motherboards featuring Serial ATA, which makes for an unbeatable
combination of flexibility and value. AMD Zone recently took a close look
at the ABIT Serillel device, and was very impressed by it.
AMD Zone points out that one of the benefits of the Serial ATA interface is thin
cables that allow for more efficient airflow, and thus improved cooling within
the PC chassis: "The Serillel device is ready for primetime from the
standpoint of flexibility. You can finally have long, thin cables that keep
airflow impact to a minimum. For cool-case fanatics, this is a godsend as it
means you don't have to round your own cables, or buy rounded cables. You
finally have a small cable to begin with."
But how do hard disks fitted with the ABIT Serillel device perform? "You can
see that when using the Serillel device your max read speed get "close" to those
of the true SATA device. On the read speed minimums the ATA-100 devices using
the Serillel device were able to maintain a higher consistent read speed than
the SATA device. Pretty impressive if you ask me...the WD1200 when coupled with
the Serillel device does manage to maintain the highest write speed of the 3
drives present."
The verdict? "Overall I have to say that the Serillel device is a rather
unique and useful product. I'm using it currently in addition to my SATA drive
and notice no real day-to-day performance issues. So if you're in the market for
Serial ATA and don't want to spend a lot of cash, try out an ATA-100 to Serial
ATA converter, and I don't think you'll be disappointed!"
