Hardware Test Gives ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES, Excellent Product Award | Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., December 19, 2002-
When performance is the order of the day, there's nothing quite like owning a
piece of ABIT Engineering. A good example is ABIT's OTES VGA cooling system,
which has been winning award after award since its introduction. Recently,
Hardware Test took a close look at the Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES, and with its
revolutionary coolinhg system, awarded it with their Excellent Product Award.
Hardware Test takes some time to outline what OTES is: "The card has the
biggest cooler I've ever seen. But what does OTES mean? OTES means Outside
Thermal Exhaust System. The principle of such a device is that the chip heats up
the heatsink base that is soldered to a tube with a certain liquid. When heated
up, the liquid evaporates, and its vapor carries heat to the tubular radiator on
the fan's left. This fan is cooled down with a strong airflow created with a
turbine-like fan with the liquid condensing in the tube, and the process starts
anew."
So what does OTES do for overclocking? "The card was running stable and
artifact-free with core and memory clock speeds of 310 and 590MHz, respectively.
This is very impressive and because of that I see no reason to pay more money or
wait for GeForce4 Ti4600 when this is running just as fast. At this frequency I
made 10492 3D Marks in 3D Mark 2001: SE at default settings 1024x768x32. Very
good!"
Their conclusion: "This card is utterly great at the price. It performs very
well and can be overclocked as you only thought possible in your dreams. It's
steady, has a good TV-Out part and a lot of fine features. The card can be
bought as a replacement of a GeForce4 Ti4600 because it can be overclocked to an
equal speed. The only drawback is the huge size and that the OTES cooling system
is very noisy. These drawbacks don't matter particularly by most users,
therefore ABIT Siluro OTES gets our Excellent Product award!"
