Overclockers Australia Calls IT7-MAX2V2.0 a Top Choice!

Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., December 19, 2002- The awards and accolades keep pouring in over ABIT's revolutionary MAX motherboard series that delivers legendary ABIT performance with an unmatched feature set. The folks at Overclockers Australia loved the original IT7-MAX, and after reviewing the newly released IT7-MAX2 v2.0, found it to be even better than it's predecessor.

OCAU delves into the fully decked-out bundle that comes with the IT7-MAX2 v.0: "It's a carefully prepared package with a lot of items. Even zip ties and cable binders are provided. It also includes a SATA cable and the ABIT propriety SATA to PATA adaptor that allows running a parallel ATA disk from one of the 2 serial ATA connectors. Still unique is the 4-channel Highpoint RAID controller which is in a clever way converted into a combined 2-channel SATA + 2-channel PATA RAID controller...This makes the IT7-MAX2 v2.0 currently most flexible solution for on-board RAID in the market."

Overclocking on the IT7-MAX2 v2.0: "We achieved air cooled and phase-changed cooled with a Vapochill cooling system slightly higher (20 MHz) CPU frequencies than with our IT7 Version 1. Air-cooled and with the additional voltage our 2.40 "B" went up to 2.960 MHz and made it phase-change cooled with our Vapochill to 3.340 MHz. At both frequencies it was possible to run "Prime 95" for around 1 hour. The slightly better results with Version 2 could be within the usual fluctuations between hardware samples - another explanation could be that the improved CPU power supply is providing for a slight better overclocking potential. In any case: the IT7-MAX2 v2.0 is good for extreme overclocking."

The verdict? "A few weeks ago we called the 845E-based IT7-MAX2 Version 1 the "best platform for Pentium 4 overclocking". The succeeding Version 2.0 keeps all the good things and puts a few subtle changes and improvements on top of them. We don't see much reason for Version 1 owners to change to Version 2.0. But anybody else considering an upgrade from an older mainboard should regard the 845PE based IT7-MAX2 Version 2 as a top choice. An already very good product has become even better."
