Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., December 19, 2002 –
After a successful release last spring, the ABIT MAX Series has evolved with the
new MAX2 Series. The MAX2 offers the legacy free advantage, but it also adds
some useful features for those who prefer traditional components, boasting
unbeatable I/O capability. Thanks to its originality, Hardware Upgrade,
one of the main Italian websites, gave their 1st Choice Award to the ABIT
AT7-MAX2 during a big comparison of Socket A boards.
Hardware Upgrade took time to explain the main difference between the old and
the new MAX Series: "Compared to the first, in the second Series ABIT has
added some good features: the number of available PCI's slot is increased and,
most of all, the PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse's ports are back, so that you won't be
forced to use USB's devices for these two important components...These new
additions (5 PCI's Slots and PS/2 connectors) makes these boards much better
compared to the old series."
Then, Hardware Upgrade took a look at the technical features of AT7-MAX2 and
found that: " The set of features on board of the AT7-MAX2 is the best you
could find on a Socket A's motherboard...The layout is pretty neat thanks to the
integration of a large amount of extra components. The overall expandibility is
very good, thanks to 5 PCI Slots and 4 memory Slots for DDR modules; some other
boards might offer you more than 5 memory Slots, but 5 is already a lot if you
also consider all the other components available on board."
Besides the rich set of features of the AT7-MAX2, Hardware Upgrade was impressed
also by the manual: " The user's manual is very detailed, there is also a
multilingual Quick Installation Guide, including Italian." Of course, the
reviewer had something to say about the well known ABIT's SoftMenu featured on
the AT7-MAX2: "The adjustable values for core and DDR voltages are quite
higher than the average offered by other brands, and this is a very appreciated
feature if you are going to overclock."
The final verdict of Hardware Upgrade? " The Abit AT7-MAX2 motherboard stood
out during the tests for its extremely original layout. The Socket A MAX's
series of motherboards offers a very rich array of features, that puts the
ABIT's product on a completely different level compared to the others KT400's
boards."
