Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., December 11, 2002 - Hardware enthusiasts are raving at
what is the most revolutionary motherboard concept to come along in recent
years: ABIT's MAX Series. Designed to be fully flexible while delivering
legendary ABIT power and performance, it's no wonder that PC users are quickly
discovering the MaxIImum Edge. Tech Report test drove the new IT7-MAX2 v2.0 and
had no problems recommending it to those "...looking for a fast,
feature-rich, peripheral-packed Pentium 4 motherboard."
Tech Report was impressed with the overall layout of the IT7-MAX2 v2.0:
"Despite all the chips, ports, and other mounting hardware, ABIT manages to pack
everything onto the IT7-MAX2 V2.0 board and still retain four full PCI slots. I
could whine about the lack of a fifth PCI slot since ABIT managed to accomplish
that feat with their Athlon-based AT7-MAX2, but that would be stretching it. If
a motherboard is already populated with its own Ethernet, 6-channel audio, RAID,
Serial ATA, Firewire, and plenty of USB 2.0 ports, what do you need more than
four PCI slots for?"
The IT7-MAX2 v2.0's bundle has the enthusiast in mind: "The IT7-MAX2 V2.0's
bundle is pretty stacked, and it's all good stuff. In addition to custom black
IDE ribbons, you also get a customary USB PCI back plate header and a port
shield that will work with the IT7-MAX2 V2.0's unique port layout. It might seem
like a small thing to some, but the zip ties and cable binders that ABIT
includes with the IT7-MAX2 V2.0 really do it for me. I may just be a sucker for
zip ties. (The tube of 600 odd zip ties on my work bench would support that
theory.) Nevertheless, zip ties and cable binders will come in handy if you need
to clean up your PC's internal or external cabling."
The verdict? "In the end, the IT7-MAX2 V2.0 is a solid Pentium 4 motherboard
and a jam-packed offering for under $170. It's a solid value if you plan to put
at least some of its integrated peripherals to use...All things considered, it's
tough to go wrong with the IT7-MAX2 V2.0...If you're looking for a fast,
feature-rich, peripheral-packed Pentium 4 motherboard, look no further than the
IT7-MAX2 V2.0."
