Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., October 29 - ABIT's MAX
Series of motherboards just got better with the introduction of the Intel-based
IT7-MAX2. Chock full of features and delivering top-notch performance, it's not
wonder that the MAX Series has been receiving awards and recommendations
worldwide. Hardware website T-Break has recently reviewed the IT7-MAX2 and
dubbed it as a Recommended Product!
T-Break was quick to notice the amazing feature set of the IT7-MAX2: "One of the
reasons why ABIT calls this series of their boards "MAX" is because they want to
provide you with the maximum features. When we received the original IT7 MAX, it
truly had an amazing number of features onboard...ABIT does Serial-ATA in style
by including something called Serillel that lets you connect your non-Serial-ATA
hard drives to a Serial-ATA connector...The advantage is that you'll have a nice
and slim cable running around inside your casing instead of the thick and messy
one that we're used to."
Performance of the IT7-MAX2 was nothing less than stellar: "The board offers the
option to run memory at DDR 354 speeds (more on this later) thru DRAM Ratio H/W
Strap...the PCI bus frequency can also be set which comes in handy while
overclocking. VCore on the IT7 MAX2 offers a maximum setting of 1.725 which is a
bit more than the original's 1.700 while the voltage for memory stays the same
at 2.8V. Lastly, FSB speeds can be adjusted upto 250MHz in 1MHz increments which
is definitely good. Overclocking is insane on this motherboard. Using our
unlocked P4, we were able to reach FSB speeds of 235MHz which is a new record
for us! Previously, Gigabyte's 8IGX allowed us to reach 210MHz, but the ABIT
sure left it smoking in the dust."
Here's the conclusion: "The IT7 MAX2 is more of an update to the original MAX
than a whole new board by itself. The original MAX was pretty different from
everything else and the removal of PS/2 ports made some people happy while other
cribbed about it. With the IT7 MAX2, you now have the option to go either way.
The addition of Serial-ATA is great however, its the inclusion of Serillel that
makes the IT7 MAX2 stand out from the other boards that feature Serial-ATA as
you can actually use the Serial-ATA bus! Last, and certainly not the least,
overclocking kicked ass on this board- we're still in awe of the 235MHz FSB."
