The praise keeps rolling in for ABIT's new MAX AT7 motherboard, the newest
motherboard in the MAX series. This time, it was the folks at Tweaktown.com, who
were so amazed with the AT7, they awarded it their coveted "Editor's Choice"
award.
The AT7 was designed to be feature-rich, something that Tweaktown didn't fail
to notice: "As far as features go, the AT7 does not disappoint. Firstly, it
supports 4-channel ATA133 RAID through a HighPoint HPT374 controller, which
means there is support for a maximum of 8 devices. Adding to the uniqueness of
the AT7, IEEE 1394 or Firewire support is also available, with two Firewire
ports onboard. As well as this, 5.1 audio is available through a Realtek ALC650
controller. Continuing with the innovations, the AT7 is also the first ever
motherboard to provide a 4-channel RAID controller and its support for a total
of 12 IDE devices is very impressive to say the least."
Along with an impressive array of fetures are the enthusiast's options that
ABIT users crave: "As usual, ABIT have not skimped on any overclocking options
with the AT7. The highest I could overclock the board was to 1848MHz (11x168)
with a core voltage of 1.85V. This is a very impressive overclock, but we feel
that this board can go much higher if used with higher yield memory such as the
new Samsung or Corsair modules. At this speed the board remained extremely
stable, and even managed to run 12 hours of 3DMark2001 loops without crashing."
The conclusion? "I was extremely pleased with all aspects of the ABIT AT7. It is
not only one of the highest performing motherboards we have tested for the
Socket A platform, but it is also one of the most feature-rich. ABIT took a huge
risk here, trying to be innovative while at the same time trying to please all
users. The bottom line is, if you are looking for a high performing, feature
rich motherboard for your shiny new Athlon XP, I have no problem recommending
the ABIT AT7. Due to the reasons mentioned above, I am pleased to award the AT7
with the TweakTown Editor's Choice award!"
