Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., October 29 - With an
unprecedented feature set and unrivaled performance, ABIT's MAX Series of
motherboards is making big waves with the hardware community. This time,
Tech-PC had a chance to put the new IT7-MAX2 under the microscope, and liked it
so much, that they gave it a final score of 95%!
Here is Tech-PC's overview of the impressive array of features found on the
IT7-MAX2: "The ABIT IT7-MAX2 is the Overclockers choice in motherboard when it
comes to achieving the best DDR overclocks and performance. It features the
Intel 845E northbridge and has the more up to date ICH4 southbridge controller,
which gives USB 2.0 support and 1394 support via an Intel solution. The board
officially only supports DDR200 and DDR266 operation, but as I shall prove later
in this review the board is easily capable of DDR400+ operation with perfect
stability when coupled with the correct memory. As this is one of the MAX2
series boards it has a vast amount of features including Serial ATA, ATA133
RAID, USB 2.0, IEEE 1394, Onboard LAN and 6 Channel AC 97 Codec audio plus
more."
And on performance: "Well to be honest I just cannot fault this motherboard, not
one hiccup at any speed up to 2800Mhz, absolutely rock stable and very fast.
Fair enough it maybe a tad slower at the equivalent speeds than the RAMBUS
setup, but it kept perfect stability all the way up to 2800Mhz (155FSB /
DDR415)...well done ABIT."
Tech-PC's recommendation? "...if you do have plans to overclock, and want
decent stable overclocks for 24/7 use then I would definetely recommend the ABIT
IT7-MAX2. Just make sure you pair it with decent PC3200 or higher memory, as
running at DDR400 or above at aggresive RAM timings turns this into one very
zippy piece of kit.
Also do not forget that DDR rigs hit extreme FSB's more easily than RAMBUS rigs
do, so for those with low multiplier CPU's DDR is also normally the better
solution."
