Q: The IDE ZIP 250 drive or specific CDRW malfunctions with NF7 series mainboards. (NF7 /NF7-S /NF7-M )
A: Cause:
There are two kinds of IDE drivers for NForce2 chipsets, one is Nvidia IDE and the other is Microsoft IDE. The former features high performance but is maybe picky about specific IDE device; nevertheless, the latter has better compatibility but a little slower performance.

Solution:
If the IDE/ATAPI device doesn't work smoothly with Nvidia IDE driver, replace it with the Microsoft driver please.

  1. By default, the Nvidia IDE driver will be enabled during the installation of the NForce2 chipset driver package. Once you experience IDE device compatibility and confirm the Nvidia IDE driver installed, replace it by Microsoft IDE driver may solve the problem.

  2. Check IDE controller item in Device Manager. If the NVidia driver installed, you will find something like this- "NVIDIA (R) nForce™ IDE Controller.

  3. Reinstall nVidia chipset driver (It will prompt to overwrite the existing files and proceed).
When it asks to install nVidia S/W IDE driver, click on "NO".

  4. To confirm the Microsoft IDE driver is installed, check if "NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller" exists under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" in Device Manger.
