Q: How to tweak my ABIT MAX boards for good performance? (AT7 / KX7-333)
A:

!!! WARNING !!! Not every DDR memory module can work with the following aggressive setting. !!! WARNING !!!

  1. Load Optimized Defaults
  2. SoftMenu III Setup
        2-1 CPU Operation Speed: User Define
              Enhance For Benchmark: Enabled
        2-2 CPU Fast Command Decode:
              Ultra (for 100 and 133 CPU)
              Fast (for CPU overclocked to 166 and above)
  3. Advanced BIOS Features
        3-1 CPU L2 Cache ECC Checking: Disabled
        3-2 APIC Mode: Enabled
  4. Advanced Chipset Features/DRAM Clock
        4-1. DRAM Timing: Manual
               DRAM CAS Latency: 2
               Bank Interleave: 4 Bank
               Precharge to active(Trp): 2T
               Active to Precharge(Tras): 5T
               Active to CMD(Trcd): 2T
                (If the system fails to boot up with above five settings, clear CMOS by yellow jumper and load optimized default)
        4-2. DIMM1&2 CMD Drive Strength: High (For Kingmax DDR module compatibility only; keeps Auto for other DDR modules)
               DIMM3&4 CMD Drive Strength: High (For Kingmax DDR module compatibility only; keeps Auto for other DDR modules)
        4-3. Enhance DRAM Performance: Enabled
        4-4. DRAM Access: 2T
                (If the system fails to boot up with above 2T setting, clear CMOS by yellow jumper and load optimized default)
        4-5. DRAM Command Rate: 1T Command
                (1T Command is a big challenge to most DDR modules, but if your module survived on this setting, there will be a significant memory performance gain.)
  5. Advanced Chipset Features/AGP & P2P Bridge Control
        5-1. AGP Aperture Size: 128M
        5-2. AGP Driving Control: Manual
               AGP Driving Value: DA or EC
        5-3. Enhance AGP Performance: Enabled

[Known issue] SYSmark2001 compatibility
<Symptom>
SYSmark2001 fails with error message: "The connection hotkey was not installed...."
<Cause>
SYSmark2001 has USB keyboard compatibility issue, and it had been confirmed on ASUS A7V333R with USB keyboard and USB mouse installed.
<Solution>
Remove USB keyboard while SYSmark 2001 reboots Windows 2000 the first time, and keep no USB keyboard status until the benchmark completes.
